If you listened to everything you read, you'd never get
on the internet. Most people recommend never using a public computer or WiFi
network. Well we don't exactly have a choice!! We've used nothing but public
computers and networks in our travels over the last four years without any
problems (other than the no virus protection case). You have to be careful
and it is
important to be aware of the dangers. You know there are people who make money by stealing
your identity. Did you know that one of the ways they do it is by using a
keystroke recorder to capture
your entries as you type? Type in Mybank.com on a secure network, enter your
user name and password and if someone is recording your keystrokes they have
the keys to your account. One of the ways around this is to use cut and
paste to enter information into forms rather than typing it. I have a file
that contains links to critical pages and encoded passwords. I enter some
data by typing and other data by pasting copied data into the form instead
of typing it. NEVER write your passwords down. Use a code that you can use
to determine the correct password by using hints, saving portions of the
password reversed or buried as phone numbers. People use
spyware and can even
record the screen as you are working, so you don’t want anything easily identifiable.
You
also don’t want to have to worry about someone having the keys to your world
if you happen to lose your USB flash drive. Check out
