WiFi Connection Cautions (Wifi)

Cautions: Before you connect make sure you un-share any folders that you may have shared on your boat network. Windows XP (and lower) doesn’t recognize the difference between your boat network and your WiFi network. So when you share a folder on a network and then connect to an un-secure wireless network, EVERYONE can see your shared files. Even though you have a firewall setup, people will be able to access shared folders unless you have taken extra security precautions.. Getting the most of your MB

Some areas have wireless hotspots where you pay by the MB. You very quickly realize just how much data you use when you pay for it. I was shocked to find out that Yahoo mail typically takes 3-5MB just to check your mail. I switched to Google Gmail which uses less than 10% of that. I forwarded my Yahoo mail to Gmail, and set my Gmail account to reply as if it was from Yahoo. Nobody even noticed we had changed email addresses. If you are really cheap and don't mind skipping graphics or the fancy wizbang videos, you can disable them through your Internet Explore Tools->Internet Options->Advanced menu. Scroll down to the Multi-media section and select what you want to display.
