I don't think you can get more isolated from the internet than on a yacht at sea. We have lived without a direct connection for over four years, using only cafes and wireless networks when available. We are forced to understand, backup, and maintain our systems without this valuable resource that the rest of the world takes for granted. We maintain three web sites and think we do a reasonable job of staying in touch. The president of our old company once said that we are the most connected unconnected people he knows. We hope the following will help you learn to live, and enjoy, a "life unplugged".

Our Philosophy

Despite how it may appear we are not a fully loaded gadget boat. Our navigation system is based around a hand held GPS, and we don't even have our autopilot networked to it. We try to do things not just in the simplest way, but in a manner that also allows us the most flexibility and redundancy. We've seen BBQs based around a freezer thaw just because the genset went down. Get the boat safe, your sailing skills tuned, and the crew comfortable (both mentally and physically), and go. Cruising is a one great big learning experience. You'll never be fully ready, no matter how long you wait or how much stuff you add to your boat.
