Want your ad here?		Boat Self Steering In four years we’ve sailed almost 23,000 Nm, at 5 knots average that’s over 4600 hours at sea.. would you want to hand steer?? Sure you CAN, but reading books and fishing is more fun!! Make sure you have the repair/troubleshooting manual for your autopilot including a part number breakdown. We use a self steering vane as a backup for our auto pilot. The Wind pilot has GREAT mounting options that allow us to remove it at anchor and still use our swim step/boarding platform. Consider how you will run the lines, including what is stored in the compartment below. The storm gear , sails, collision mat , life preservers, parachute anchor  and delta drogue are on the opposite side that the lines run. The spinnaker is stored on the side the control line run over, the thought being if it is calm enough to put up the chute we can hand steer for a little bit.
